After more than a decade working in a variety of roles in the private sector, Alex Kavourinos began his teaching career in the summer of 2010 with an international summer program that enabled high school students to explore global destinations while earning academic credit.

Throughout his career, he has taught a diverse range of subjects, including Communications Technology, Technological Design, Hospitality and Tourism Technology, Construction Technology, World Issues, Canadian Geography, Visual Arts, Mathematics, Civics, Business, and Cooperative Education.

Beyond the classroom, Alex has been actively involved in school life by coaching basketball, cricket, and archery. He has also supported student engagement by facilitating the production of school yearbooks, managing chess teams and stage crews, coordinating student nutrition and Breakfast for Learning programs, and participating in TDSB Technological Skills Competitions.

Alex’s involvement with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) began at the branch level, where he served as Branch Secretary (2022–2023), Occupational Health and Safety Representative (2023–2024), and Branch President at Western Technical-Commercial School (2025–2026). Prior to becoming an Executive Officer, Alex built a strong record of advocacy and leadership within the Federation. He is committed to protecting members’ rights, advancing safe and equitable working conditions, and strengthening Ontario’s publicly funded education system. Alex values collaboration, transparency, and member engagement, and is dedicated to ensuring that every member has a strong voice and meaningful representation within the union.
