Fund Our Schools: TDSB Budget Concerns and an Urgent Call to Action

Fund Our Schools Rally April 2, 2024 4:00pm – 6:00pm

As the TDSB looks to pass its preliminary budget, once again, chronic provincial underfunding is putting pressure on the board to make deep cuts. Adult day school and continuing education programs are at risk, and teacher sick leave benefits are becoming increasingly a political target. It’s time to stand up to a Conservative government that seeks to undermine public education and demand well funded schools and robust public programming. The Fund Our Schools campaign has been created precisely to do this, and we’re just getting started.

Join OSSTF Toronto, ETT, CUPE 4400, and community allies in front of the TDSB office at 5050 Yonge St. on April 2, 2024 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. Bring some members from your school, create some signs, and let’s make some noise!

Stand Up Against Proposed Adult Day School Cuts

The Toronto District School Board is considering cuts to Continuing Education, among other programs. Continuing Education programs, and particularly Adult Day Schools, are a critical part of the public education system in this city. These programs provide vital education to newcomers trying to establish themselves in the country and important second chances for those whose life circumstances prevented them from completing their education. And though Adult Day School teachers hold the same qualifications as their adolescent day school counterparts, their work is precarious and for many of these teachers their job security, benefits and compensation are less than their peers in adolescent day school programs.

Earlier today, the TBU Executive sent a letter to TDSB trustees expressing our concerns regarding the proposed restructuring of Adult Day School Programs.

We need your help to stand up against these cuts! Click here to quickly email your trustee and tell them to stand up for Continuing and Adult Day School Education in the TDSB.
