JAMES JOHN McQUEEN

Jim McQueen, immediate past president of OSSTF D12, died peacefully, surrounded by his children, at the age of 76, on Monday, December 8, 2014.

Jim, like his mother Margaret, loved fiercely. Along with a love of sports, Jim’s family was his greatest joy. He was a loyal and caring friend. Those who visited Jim during his last days ensured they were as he lived: filled with music, humour, stories and the Fan 590.

He will be missed by children Christopher, Jamie and his wife Michele and Lynn and her husband Peter. He is also remembered by granddaughters Allison and Samantha.

Jim was a proud teacher, Ontario labour movement activist, Life Member of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation and President of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation. Among the many positions he held in his successful career, his presidency of District 12 (Toronto) was his favourite OSSTF job.

Jim’s family thanks Dr. Hope and Dr. Shepherd at Princess Margaret Hospital, and all the palliative care doctors, nurses and caregivers who cared for Jim, most particularly at Bridgepoint Hospital.

At Jim’s request, he was cremated and there was no funeral. Instead, a celebration of his life will be held at a future date.

Those who wish to make a donation in honour of Jim’s life, are asked by the family to contribute to Kids Help Phone. Messages of condolence may be left at: http://www.heritagefuneralcentre.ca/
