Dear Branch President
As we come to the close of this week, and head into the long Thanksgiving Weekend, the Executive would like you to know that we are thankful for your engagement in union leadership, and for your continued assistance with ensuring that members have the most up to date information. We hope you have a wonderful long weekend, however you choose to use the time.
October District General Meeting
The October District General Meeting is held to approve the District Budget. This year it will be held just prior to Teacher Bargaining Unit Council on Thursday, October 15 at 4:30pm on the 4th floor at 1482 Bathurst Street. All members are welcome to attend and while registration isn’t necessary all will be required to present ID.
STBU Council
Following the District meeting, the STBU Council meeting will be held at 5:30 pm. The tentative agenda package including motions submitted on time is posted on our website.
Please be reminded that only Branch Presidents and elected Council Representatives whose names have been submitted to our office using the online submission form will be eligible to vote at the meeting. Should you need to submit the name of an alternate, please do so by emailing the name of the alternate and the person being replaced to osstfd12steering@osstfd12.com by noon on Thursday, October 15. Only names submitted to this email address by the deadline are guaranteed to be received by the steering committee.
In keeping with the motion passed last year, please endeavor to bring your own ‘mess kit’ to the meeting.
Branch Presidents’ Workshop
Registration for the Workshop is now closed. Confirmation of your registration will be forwarded to you at the email address you provided upon registration. We are busy working on the agenda and it is looking good! There will be lots of opportunity for Branch Presidents whether experienced, new or somewhere in between, to share ideas about managing issues that commonly arise, learn about member-representation and the grievance and arbitration process, and to be brought fully up to date on the state of our local bargaining and potential for job action. It is important that all schools have well-informed, properly trained Branch Presidents in their Branch and that’s what this workshop is intended to help with. While we have released back to the hotel unused rooms from the block we reserved, if you would like to register, talk to your school Executive Officer and we will see if there are any rooms still available.
