You will recall that we began this year’s placement process with 500 FTE teachers surplus to school. The Board and OSSTF met on the appointed dates in July and August, up to the deadline of noon August 31. As at the writing of this memo, 106 members remain fully unplaced, and another 83 are partially unplaced. The total FTE unplaced teachers is 135.5.
Those teachers who are partially placed, or who are without a job will be able to access the Recall Process which, given the odd calendar year we are in, actually begins before the start of school (on September 1, 2015).
Meetings to place teachers continue this week in accordance with the Recall Provisions of the Staffing Manual.
If you are a teacher without a job on September 9, 2015, OSSTF encourages you to attend one of the two meetings scheduled by the Board at 5050 Yonge Street in the main board room, either at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. OSSTF Staffing Officers will be in attendance as will a representative from HRD Canada.
Recall Rights will be maintained throughout the school year with the goal of reverting all teachers to their 2014-15 contract status as soon as possible. Union Staffing Officers will continue to monitor the staffing process throughout this period.
Your OSSTF Toronto Executive members know that each of the numbers above reflects an individual whose life is on hold pending notification of employment and that this continues to be a very anxious time both for those yet without jobs, and for those who face new challenges as a result of their new work location. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with your Executive Officer.
Further Staffing Update Memos will be provided on a from time to time basis.
