In accordance with our Constitution and Bylaws, elections for the two OSSTF teacher representative positions on the School Staffing Committee must be held prior to the end of October each year. Branch Presidents will find here the Constitutional language, a summary of the election process as outlined in our Constitution and Bylaws and, attached below, a Nomination Form. If you have any questions, please contact your Executive Officer.
To be in compliance with the constitution, please follow these steps:
- Select an election date (branch meeting) and post it on your OSSTF bulletin board at least 2 weeks before the chosen date.
- Copy the attached nomination form and place in each of your member’s mailboxes at least 1 week before the branch meeting.
- On the close of nominations (4 p.m., two school days prior to your branch meeting), post the names of the nominees on the OSSTF bulletin board. If you have only two nominees, then declare those individuals acclaimed in the notice.
- Ask a couple of members who are not candidates to assist with counting ballots.
- At the election branch meeting, each candidate may speak for up to 2 minutes.
- Provide each member in attendance at the meeting with a piece of paper on which they can write in the names of their preferred candidate(s).
- Declare as elected the two candidates with the highest number of votes and post their names on your OSSTF bulletin board.
- Inform your principal in writing of the names of the OSSTF staffing committee members (an email will suffice).
